Passport
Call it a casualty of being on the road. Call it stupidity. But sadly, it became my reality.
I lost my passport.
I spoke at the www.sm4c.com event in Boston on Friday night. On Saturday, I realized that i did not have my passport. I retraced my steps. I called everybody. I even checked every pocket that could be checked – you know, even that pocket that you never thought you put anything in, but you’re going to check it anyway. Sadly no passport.
But I could not lement on my situation for long. I needed to be in Lisbon, Portugal on that following Tuesday. I needed to replace my passport. But how? With all the rules and regulations that exist in a system that moves slower than molasses. I needed help. I needed to outsource this problem.
Introduce www.rushpassport.com.
I found these folks online. More accurately, my little brother found them online, and forwarded this link to me. I called them immediately, and they called me back (even though it was Sunday). I felt reassured. The person on the found was pleasant and confident that I would be able to have a passport – even though Monday was a federal holiday – Columbus Day.
I showed up on Tuesday morning, waiting in line like a rock fan waiting to buy tickets, at 7am. There were already 4 people in line, and we traded war stories from the road. Most of them had expired passports, but I sadly was in that line due to my own shortcomings.
The doors opened, the people were there to help. I felt great. But wow. What a bad attitude. I wanted to talk to the same guy that called me on Sunday, but the person behind the desk was more interested in moving the line forward. I had no choice. I needed to be in Lisbon. I dealt with the bad attitude, paid a TON of money, and waited. The jury would be in at 4:30pm. At 4:30pm, I would know if I had placed my trust in this organization falsely.
And everyone is on the edge of their seats….
While not the most pleasant people to deal with, they did deliver on what they promised. I would not use these folks again, because their attitude was just sub-par. But I suppose when you are one of very few expeditors in the business, you can afford to skimp on customer service.
I took my passport, headed to the airport, sat on the plane, and put my passport in my bag. In the pocket where it belongs.
